Kerala is called  God's Own Country . No matter who has named it so,  many say that such a name is very apt for this state, because, in Kerala we can experience diverse forms of climate, which is not available in any  other State in India.   while some places have  moderate temperatures throughout the year, there are certain other places, where we can experience extreme cold climate to enjoy our vacation. There are also  dense forestsin this state. You can see beautiful beaches in this State. These all diverse climates make this State a "God's Own Country.

 

As a crown to this State and  having most historical importance, we cannoot ever forget to visit Thiruvananthapuram, which was formerly Trivandrum. Trivandrum is the  Capital of Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram houses the Secretariat of Kerala Government. Thiruvananthapuram has many tourist attaractions in and around  the city.

Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple

Located inside the East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of the State of Kerala in India is the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture.

 

The history of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple dates back to 8th century. It is one of the 108 sacred Vishnu temples or Divya Desams in India. Divya Desams are the holiest abodes of the Lord Vishnu that are mentioned in the works of the Tamil Azhvars (saints). The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu, reclining on Anantha, the hooded Serpent.

Kawdiar Palace

Kowdiar Palace located in Thiruvananthapuram was built during the reign of Sree Moolam Thirunal in 1915 and was presented to Sethu Parvati Bayi, who once was the Junior Rani of Attingal under the Senior Rani, Sethu Lekshmi Bayi.

Kawdiar Palace is the perfect example of Kerala style architecture. Situated in the heart of Trivandrum, this palace has over 150 rooms, 3 stories, wooden lift, and 6 steeples. The Kowdiar palace is restricted for tourists. Kowdiar Palace is the personal residence of the members of the Travancore family. Their family get togethers are conducted here. Public are not allowed here. We can see the beauty of this Royal palace from the gate.

Thiruvananthapuram ZOO

The Thiruvananthapuram Zoo (also known as Trivandrum Zoo) occupies 55 acres (22 ha) of woodland, lakes, and lawns. It is the oldest zoo in Asia.  Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, who ruled Travancore between 1830 and 1847, established a menagerie where royal tigers, panthers, cheetahs, deer, boar, and other wild animals were kept. His brother Uthram Thirunal and British Resident William Cullen formally establish the zoo in 1857 as an annex to the Napier Museum.

 

The  Zoo is home to 82 species from around the world. Indigenous species at the zoo include lion-tailed macaque, Nilgiri langur, Indian rhinoceros, Asiatic lion, royal Bengal tiger, white tiger and leopard, as well a nine Asian elephants.  Animals from Africa include giraffes, hippos, zebras, and Cape buffalos.  The zoo also includes a snake farm which exhibits both poisonous and non-poisonous snakes and also have 7 Anacondas. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shuankhumukham Beach

Situated about 8 km. from the city, Shankhumukham Beach is one of the famous places to visit in Thiruvananthapuram. Full of interesting attractions, the beach is situated adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram airport, making it even more popular.  Shankhumukham Beach is also known for its gorgeous sunset and ritual washing of temple idols during local festivals.

 

The main attraction of this tourist spot is  a  sexy,  eye-catching mermaid (Matsya Kanyaka) shaped white statue, which makes visiting the place wonderful. Some of the nearby attractions that make this beach more appealing to the visitors are Chacha Nehru Traffic Training Park, indoor recreational club and thestar fish shaped restaurant.
